Abstract The report covers the first phase of research into the dependence of filtration efficiency on filtration parameters and fabrics. It gives results of laboratory tests of three types of polyester fabrics and one polyamid fabric in the filtration of cement and coal dusts with particles of mass median diameter of 7.5 micrometers. Noted during the tests were: the relationship between the type of dust and filtration process parameters; and the effect of electrostatic properties on the filtration process. The dust filtration process was classified into three filtration types. The structure of filtration fabrics was tested on the basis of air flow through 16 fabric samples in two ranges of air flow velocity. The stochastic character of air flow through the fabrics was verified. Structural parameters of the fabrics, as well as derivative parameters, were measured and observed phenomena were analyzed from an analytical viewpoint. The report also covers results of cement and coal dust electrification tests and fabric resistance measurements.
