Abstract |
4-Phenylcyclohexene (4-PCH) was evaluated for dermal sensitization potential using a modified Buehler method. Ten male Hartley albino guinea pigs each received a total of three dermal applications of 10% 4-PCH in dipropylene glycol monomethyl ether (DPGME) once per week during the three week induction phase. A positive control group of ten animals received three dermal applications of 10% DER(sup star) 331 epoxy resin in DPGME during the induction phase of the study. The respective groups were challenged with 10% 4-PCH or 10% DER 331 epoxy resin on the 13th day after the last induction application. The condition of the test sites was assessed 24 and 48 hours after the challenge application. Challenge application with the positive control caused slight erythema at the dermal test site of nine of ten animals. Challenge application with 10% 4-PCH caused no response in any of the animals. It was therefore concluded that, under the conditions of this study, 4-PCH did not cause delayed contact hypersensitivity in guinea pigs. |
