Abstract The 0.88-acre Preferred Plating site is a former metal plating facility in Farmingdale, Town of Babylon, Suffolk County, New York. From 1951 to 1976, Preferred Plating Corporation (PPC) operated a metal plating facility that degreased, cleaned, and finished metal parts. Untreated wastewater was discharged to four onsite concrete waste storage pits. The ROD addresses subsurface soil contamination contributing to the ground water problem attributable to the site. The primary contaminants of concern affecting the soil are VOCs, including benzene, PCE, TCE, toluene, and xylenes; metals, including arsenic, chromium, and lead; and inorganics, including cyanide.
