Abstract A one-dimensional temperature prediction model has been developed and tested on the Columbia River. The model in its present form is operational for use on rivers for which: Cross-sectional characteristics, including water surface width and cross-sectional area are available; adequate meteorologic data is available; water surface elevation data is available; evaporation and sensible heat flux can be evaluated in terms of regional weather data and the results of representative field studies;lateral and vertical variations in temperature are negligible; and the flow can be considered quasi-steady.
