| Abstract |
The purpose of the project is to demonstrate methods of reducing nutrient runoff and improving water quality flowing from non-point sources to Lake Erie specifically from agricultural land. The Project proposed to demonstrate and measure the effectiveness of best management practices in reducing sediment and nutrient loss from agricultural land. Best Management Practices are soil conservation practices which are expected to have a beneficial impact on water quality. Several unique and innovative practices were to be demonstrated on the fine textured lake plain soils and the suitability of these practices as they relate to crop production was also to be evaluated. Primary conservation practices demonstrated were no-till and ridge till land management along with fertilizer and pesticide application. Pest scouting was also done. |
