Abstract |
This report represents the fifth in the series of clean water reports to the Congress prepared in accordance with the Section 26(a) of the Federal Water Pollution Control Act, as amended. It studies the problem of water pollution and its control by giving an assessment of the prevalence and degree of water pollution occurring nationally and by giving estimates of the capital investment and annual operating requirements through 1976 in both the industrial and municipal waste treatment sectors. This analysis is based on assumptions of current federal-State water quality standards. An assessment of the economic costs of the various treatment levels necessary to insure water quality standards up to zero discharge is also included. (Author) |
