Abstract The purpose of this study was to determine if several site-specific volatile organic compound (VOC) emission sources in Louisville, KY and Nashville, TN were applying reasonably available control technology (RACT) to control emissions. The facilities examined included two aluminum rolling mill lubricant sources, a furniture coating plant and a fiberglass boat manufacturing plant. None of the examined sources currently have RACT in place. For aluminum rolling mill plants the best RACT option appears to be the substitution of a linear paraffin rolling oil for the kerosene-based lubricants currently used. The best RACT option for furniture coating was determined to be the use of electrostatic spraying equipment. For the fiberglass boat manufacturing source, work practice controls, low styrene resins, and commercial acetone recycling were determined to be the best potential RACT options for VOC control.
