Abstract After both air and ozone exposures, the permeability of the respiratory epithelium was assessed by measuring the pulmonary clearance rate of inhaled aerosolized 99mTc-labeled diethylene triamine pentacetic acid (99mTc-DTPA). Following ozone exposures sufficient to induce decrements in mechanical lung function, seven of eight young men showed increased epithelial permeability.
