Abstract The paper gives results of a review of the quarterly performance of subslab depressurization (SSD) radon mitigation systems in eight houses in the New Jersey (NJ) Piedmont study and houses in which the NJ Department of Environmental Protection measurements have indicated operation at above the U.S. EPA guideline of 4 pCi/L. Quarterly radon levels, mitigation system noise levels and flow rates, exhaust radon level, moisture problems, and other pertinent operating parameters are evaluated. Homeowner influence on the operation of the mitigation systems has been documented and was shown to be the major cause of above-guideline levels of radon in mitigated houses.
