| Abstract |
Two groups of ten rats each were dehaired on the back and five times a week for eight weeks 3 cc. of a four per cent solution of each of the polyvinyl alcohols was applied to the dehaired skin, amounting to a total daily application of 120 mg. The rats appeared normal throughout the entire experiment, but the hair grew very slowly and unevenly, and in some animal no new hair grew during the treatment. Although there was apparently some retardation of the growth of the hair, there was no evidence of a toxic effect on the hair follicles, because one week after the last treatment the backs of all rats showed an even growth of the hair. |
