This report deals with 2,4,6-tribromophenol (2,4,6-TBP) and other simple brominated phenols with a single benzene ring. However, information on toxicity, ecotoxicity, and environmental fate on bromophenols other than 2,4,6-TBP is very limited. On the basis of the very limited data on concentrations of bromophenols in waters and sediment, the present risk to aquatic organisms from 2,4,6-TBP in sediment would appear to be low. Insufficient data are available to make a meaningful risk assessment for other brominated phenols and for all brominated phenols in the terrestrial environment.--Publisher's description.
