Abstract This is a liquid chromatography electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (LC/ESI/MS) method for the determination of perchlorate in raw and finished drinking waters. This method can be used to acquire data using either Selected Ion Monitoring (SIM) or Multiple Reaction Monitoring (MRM) detection. Based on known interferences, MRM detection is recommended, however, SIM detection may be used if all of the criteria outlined in Section 9.1 are met. Precision and accuracy data have been generated for both SIM and MRM detection of perchlorate in reagent water, finished groundwater, finished surface water and a synthetic high ionic strength matrix. The single laboratory Lowest Concentration Minimum Reporting Level (LCMRL) has also been determined for both detection modes in reagent water.
