Abstract The Clean Air Act, which was last amended in 1990, requires EPA to set National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) for widespread pollutants from numerous and diverse sources considered harmful to public health and the environment. EPA has set NAAQS for the following pollutants, which are called criteria pollutants: ozone, particulate matter, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, and lead. The Clean Air Act requires periodic review of the science upon which the standards are based and the standards themselves to (1) ensure that they provide adequate health and environmental protection and (2) update those standards as necessary. This report documents the methodology and input data used in the inhalation exposure assessment for ozone conducted in support of the current review of the ozone NAAQS. Specifically, this report includes the following: Summary of the overall inhalation exposure assessment methodology; Description of the inhalation exposure model used in this assessment; Description of the input data used for the 12 selected urban areas; Assessment of the quality and limitations of the input data for supporting the goals of the ozone NAAQS exposure analysis; and Sensitivity analyses.
