Abstract Study results are presented for water quality in the upper Savannah River between the Hartwell Dam site and the upper limits of Clark Hill Reservoir and of the effects of the dam on the water supply and waste disposal conditions at Clemson, South Carolina. Field studies were conducted in the fall of 1955, and included stream sampling and waste effluent sampling. The section of the Savannah River investigated was found to have a low organic pollution load and a high dissolved oxygen content. Sewage pollution prevented bathing or recreational use of the river. Recommendations are made to protect the Clemson water supply.
