Abstract The report presents the results of a pilot study in the State of Minnesota to identify the availability and usefulness of existing ground-water data to support the use of these indicators. EPA chose Minnesota for the pilot study for three reasons: (1) the State has collected ground-water data over time, (2) the State has established waste site and drinking water programs, and (3) approximately 75 percent of the State's population relies wholly, or in part on ground water for their drinking water supply. Five ground-water quality indicators were investigated in the pilot study: Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL) exceedances in ground-water based public drinking water supplies; On-site and Off-site contamination at hazardous waste sites; Nitrate concentration in ground water; Volatile organic compound (VOC) concentrations in ground water; and Pesticide use.
