Abstract This report summarizes a test program which was designed to evaluate the durability of various low cost catalysts on a fleet of methanol-fueled vehicles. This durability program is being conducted in cooperation with the California Energy Commission, Ford Motor Company, and Toyota Motor Company. The selection of catalysts for this program is based on the results of an ongoing, in-house program to evaluate catalysts at low mileage. The criteria for identifying low cost catalysts for this program were that all candidate catalysts should have provided the capability to meet the 0.41 hydrocarbon and 3.4 carbon monoxide levels with substantial margins of safety at low mileage in that previous program. Additionally, three-way catalysts should have provided emissions well below the 1.0 nitrogen oxide level.
