Abstract This compound is slightly toxic orally having an LD50 in rats of about 3200 mg/kg. Intraperitoneally, it is moderately toxie with an LD50 in the same species of 200 mf/kg. The solid, moistened slightly with water and held in contact with the skin of guinea pigs for a period of 24 hours, resulted in only very slight skin irritation, and there was no evidence of toxic effects caused by topical application. The LD50 by skin absorption is greater than 2 gm/kg. One case of contact dermatitis in an employee has occurred. In a standard sensitization test the compound appeared to be a sensitizer of low activity to one out of five guinea pigs tested. Studies in other laboratories have indicated that absorption through intact skin is relatively slight but that it can cause rather severe dermatitis. Absorption from the respiratogy tract over long periods of time can also cause cyanosis and may have an affect on the hemotology of the animal. It has also been reported that in the case of rabbits, a single dose of 500 mg/kg can cause a rapidly fatal diarrhea.
