| Abstract |
The report analyzes the amounts and distribution of precipitation, soil productivity and stability, and suitability and availability of native vegetation for revegetation in portions of North Dakota, Montana and Wyoming. These factors are analyzed for each surface minable coal bearing area in the region. The three factors analyzed are rated and revegetation response potentials designated Revegetation Response Units (RRU) estimated for all surface minable lands. The existing revegetation efforts on all of the mines in the Northern Great Plains are discussed. In addition to revegetation potential the report discusses cost of revegetation and legal basis for enforcement of surface mined rehabilitation regulations. Information and research needs are listed. |
