Abstract |
The Wildcat Landfill site is located 2.5 miles southeast of Dover in Kent County, Delaware. A pond, created by construction of the landfill, is located directly adjacent to the site along the northwestern edge. The site was operated as a permitted sanitary landfill between 1962 and 1973, accepting both municipal and industrial wastes. Industrial wastes suspected to have been disposed of include latex waste and paint sludges. Typical wastes encountered at the site included municipal refuse latex in strips and sheets; scattered crushed, empty, or intact drums; and manufactured plastic items. Consequently, in that area of the landfill, wastes are in direct contact with the surficial sand aquifer. The primary contaminants of concern affecting the soil and ground water are VOCs including benzene, other organics including PCBs, and metals including arsenic and lead. The selected remedial actions for the site are included. |
