Abstract The site consists of approximately 123 acres, half of which has been extensively mined for sand and gravel. During the early 1970s, approximately 2,000 drums of paint-related waste were disposed of on the eastern portion of the site, adjacent to a five-acre sand quarry lake. The initial site inspection in August 1982 identified damaged, corroded, and leaking drums. Waste solvents and paint sludges from several drums contained metals and VOCs. Waste solvents from the barrels were determined to be hazardous due to their ignitability. A removal and site cleanup was ordered. Sampling detected arsenic, lead, and selenium in drinking water wells, and VOCs, including toluene, in onsite soils and in monitoring wells. It has been determined that the site does not pose a significant threat to public health, welfare, and the environment. Therefore, no further action has been selected.
