Abstract The report describes the results of the first use of countercurrent rinsing (involving the use of a compartmentized rinse tank) in high-speed strip plating lines. The objective of using this rinse method is to reuce the amount of water required so as to have a volume of liquid more easily handled in recovering chemicals. The first unknown studied was the operating performance of the multistage rinse system to determine if the basic principles of countercurrent rinsing would hold for a high-speed strip plating operation. Second was the best way to recover the chemicals in the concentrated stream from this rinse system. The report also describes problems encountered in recycling the concentrated rinse into the main plating system. It also describes new technology for solving these problems and an alternate method involving indirect recycling using the detinning plant.
