Abstract This project consisted of an evaluation of the Molecular Bonding System (R) (MBS(R)) developed by Solucorp (R) Industries Ltd. to reduce the leachability of heavy metals in soils and other solid wastes. As a part of this evaluation, a demonstration of the technology was conducted by the SITE Program at the Midvale Slag Superfund Site in Midvale, Utah. The overall goal of the demonstration was to evaluate the effectiveness of the MBS process in treating approximately 500 tons each of three hazardous wastes/soils at the Midvale Slag Superfund Site. In addition, demonstration results and other sources of cost information were used to develop detailed cost estimates for full-scale application of the technology. Like other solidification/stabilization (S/S) technologies, the MBS process does not reduce total metals concentrations but instead reduces the leachability of the metals. Therefore, the Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure (TCLP) and Synthetic Precipitation Leaching Procedure (SPLP) were used to evaluate leachable concentration reductions of arsenic (As), cadmium (Cd), and lead (Pb).
