Abstract This document provides an overview of the minimum regulations which are the basis of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Underground Injection Control (UIC) Program. Development of these minimum standards by EPA, was required by Federal statute (Safe Drinking Water Act, signed into law December 17, 1974). Congress intended for EPA to establish a Federal-State system of regulation to assure that drinking water sources, actual and potential, are not rendered unfit for such use by underground injection of contaminants.
