Abstract The study evaluates the removal of pentachlorophenol (PCP), a wood preserving agent, from soils that have been contaminated over a period of time. Previously, equal proportions of ethanol and water were found to have the highest PCP removal efficiencies for above ground batch extractions at various soil:solvent ratios. In addition, the 50% and 75% ethanol solutions achieved higher removal efficiencies at low solvent throughputs in in-situ soil flushing experiments.
