Abstract The general objective was to adequately define the problems and to offer possible solutions associated with developing a plan for ground water management for the Upper Big Sioux River. An attempt was made to determine what information is necessary for developing a complete plan for ground water management and to determine what the potential benefit or damage might be from raising the ground water table along the river banks. The basic idea of the management program for the river envisions a series of overflow dams on the main channel. These dams would be capable of raising the water level within the channel, and the accompanying rise in river stage would result in movement of surface water to the adjacent outwash aquifer. (Author)
