Abstract To a standing-room-only audience in Boston, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency opened the first in a series of regional conferences to inform the public about global warming. On June 26, 1997, close to 200 people heard John P. DeVillars, EPA's regional administrator for New England, kick off the one-day event with a far-sighted agenda for action.
