Abstract |
Published information on the water usage of cane sugar factories and on their waste loads is rather limited and concerned mainly with conditions in Louisiana where pollution from this source has long been a problem. The Stream Control Commission of Louisiana at Baton Rouge has an excellent collection of data on the variations in waste loads. The publications listed in the bibliography also provide useful information. The papers summarizes available information on the nature, types, and amounts of wastes produced by the industry, and the methods which have been developed and used to overcome or minimize the harmful effects of waste effluents.
