Abstract On January 13, 1976, a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) for evaporative emissions from 1978 and 1979 model year light duty vehicles and trucks was published in the Federal Register. The proposed evaporative emission standard was 6.0g/test for the 1978 model year and 2.0g/test standard for the 1979 model year. Comments on the NPRM were received from 13 automotive manufacturers. The purpose of this report is to summarize the industry progress since the comments of the NPRM, in achieving evaporative emission levels of less than 2g/test.
