Abstract |
A key component of the Ecosystem Modeling Program is effective integration of modeling approaches. The ecosystem process models use nutrient loading and other information to predict the quality and quantity of food and habitat available to fish populations. This fish bioenergetics models use this food and habitat information to predict the potential production of striped bass, bluefish, weakfish, Bay anchovy, menhaden, spot and white perch. The models will be combined to incorporate ecological feedbacks associated with top-down control by fish of their prey and ecosystem components, such as SAV and water quality. The two modeling frameworks for Chesapeake Bay--fish bioenergetics and ecosystem process models--will also be merged with hydrodynamic models to evaluate changes in habitat conditions, flow, and nutrient loading on living resources. The Chesapeake Bay Ecosystem Modeling Program for 1994-1996 included models for; submerged aquatic vegetation (SAV); littoral areas, marshes and wetlands; plankton-benthos; zooplankton; and ecosystem and fish bioenergetics. |
