Abstract The 30-acre Industrial Drive site is an active sanitary landfill and industrial facility in Williams Township, Northampton County, Pennsylvania. Land use in the area is industrial, residential, and agricultural. The site contains active and inactive sanitary landfills as well as active, inactive, and abandoned industrial facilities. In the late 1970's, local residents alleged that the now inactive unlined landfill had accepted hazardous wastes that had contaminated local drinking water wells. The ROD addresses OU2, the contaminated ground water and the low-level threat caused by the unlined municipal landfill. The primary contaminants of concern affecting the soil, debris, and ground water are VOCs including benzene, PCE, and TCE; other organics; and metals including chromium and lead. The selected remedial action for this site includes closing and capping the unlined landfill area with a clay or synthetic cap; onsite pumping and treatment of contaminated ground water using an air stripper, followed by carbon adsorption with onsite discharge of the treated ground water to the Lehigh River.
