Abstract The South Andover site is comprised of several separate parcels of land totaling approximately 50 acres in the southern portion of Andover, Minnesota. One-quarter mile to the north of the site is a residential neighborhood. Further development is planned to the west and the south of the site. The Waste Disposal Engineering landfill, a Superfund National Priorities List site, is located 3,000 feet northeast of South Andover. Multiple waste handling operations occurred between 1954 and 1981 on several properties within the site boundaries. Consequently, there are multiple source areas which include a drum storage area, a waste discharge area, and a waste burning area. In 1981, the contents of approximately 700 drums were disposed of by mixing them with waste oil and using the mixture as fuel. In 1986, a group of PRPs removed approximately 500 additional onsite drums. Soil investigations have been limited by the presence of a large volume of tires piled onsite and piles of junked automobiles. Currently, the primary contaminants of concern affecting the ground water include: arsenic, chromium, lead, metals, VOCs, PCE, TCE, toluene, and organics. The selected remedial action for the site is included in the report.
