Abstract The report presents results dealing with the role of electric fields in agglomeration processes. The objectives relate to agglomeration characterized as follows: The gas-entrained particulate includes particles of both signs, so that charge neutrality on the macroscale is preserved; Two families of particle sizes are used. It is agglomeration between fine particulate and large particles that is of interest through the microfields existing between these particles. The objectives were to provide theoretical estimates of the feasibility of using the agglomeration process described above, in a practical conditioning device; to glean what evidence there is from the literature that such agglomerative interactions occur; to make preliminary experimental tests to demonstrate the type of agglomeration of interest.
