Presents an update on the clinical presentation, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of influenza. Included is an overview of the impact of influenza in the community and in healthcare settings, the use of influenza vaccination, and the use of influenza antiviral medications. An update on the availability of influenza vaccine for the 2001 season is also provided. Goal: To provide an update on prevention, detection, and control strategies of influenza. Objectives: After the program, participants will be able to: Describe the clinical signs and symptoms associated with influenza. Define the impact of influenza in the community and in healthcare facilities. Understand the use of influenza diagnostic tests and antiviralmedications. Identify at risk populations targeted for influenza vaccination and obtain information on the vaccine supply for 2001-2002. |
