Abstract |
Further evaluation of RCRA Method 8280 for the analysis of chlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans has been performed. The Method has been modified to enable the quantitation of total tetra- through octa-chlorinated dioxins and dibenzofurans and has been applied to six different sample matrices derived from industrial polychlorophenol sources and also to fly-ash, still-bottom, and Missouri soil samples. An interlaboratory validation of the Method has been conducted in two phases: Phase I required the analysis of spiked and unspiked clay and sludge samples for certain specified analytes, and Phase II required the analysis of 10 samples of soil, sludge, fly-ash, and furans. Method detection limits of (13)C12- labeled polychlorinated dioxins and dibenzofurans in seven matrices have been determined. In order to propose the most effective procedure, a comparison was made of the Contract Laboratory Program carbon column cleanup (without backflush) with the backflush procedure used in the proposed RCRA Method. |
