Abstract As a result of stratospheric ozone depletion, ultraviolet-B radiation (290-320 nm; UV-B) reaching marine environments is likely to increase over the next few decades. Available information suggests that UV-B radiation can have a variety of deleterious effects on marine ecosystems. The report points out the current uncertainties in existing information and speculates on the range of possible effects. The authors hope that controversial aspects will stimulate discussion and additional needed research.
