Abstract This report analyzes a proposal that EPA sponsor a large-scale pilot plant to develop the Conoco (formerly Consol) Dolomite Hot Gas Clean-up system. The report includes a history of the prior development program, the technology involved comparisons with competitive technologies in regard to technical feasibility, potential efficiency, and environmental benefits. Future funding implications are explored. The potential benefits in economy and efficiency of energy conversion are judged to be substantial, but the cost of development is high. The expected cost of the pilot plant program may be greater than funding ability. The current laboratory program should either be continued or should be terminated in a way that will insure that the knowledge already gained is retrievable.
