Abstract The report gives results of fractional and overall collection efficiency measurements of an electrostatic precipitator collecting fly ash from a coal-fired boiler burning high-sulfur coal. The mass median diameter of the particulate entering the collector was approximately 40 micrometers; that leaving the collector was between 3 and 4 micrometers. Measurements were conducted at two levels of precipitator operating current density. Measured efficiencies were compared with those predicted from a computer model of electrostatic precipitation. Measured efficiencies are higher than predicted.
