Abstract The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) wants the public to participate in decision-making at Superfund and other sites with environmental problems. Early and direct public involvement results in better decisions on how to deal with environmental problems at these sites. Forming a Community Advisory Group is one of the most effective ways a community can participate in environmental decisions. A Community Advisory Group is a committee, task force, or board made up of residents of a community with Superfund or other environmental problems. The Community Advisory Group enhances public participation in the cleanup process and other environmental decision-making by providing a public forum where community representatives can discuss their diverse interests, needs, and concerns. This Toolkit is designed to provide a variety of information to help you set up your Community Advisory Group. The Toolkit has two parts: Part 1 is a collection of 'how to' information. It includes step-by-step information on organizing your Community Advisory Group and suggestions about some of the major things to consider as you do so. Part 2 contains 'tools'-such as outlines, forms, publications, and other materials-for use in establishing and maintaining your Community Advisory Group.
