Abstract The paper gives results of an evaluation of waterborne contact adhesives for attaching laminates. Three waterborne contact adhesives and one solvent-borne contact adhesive (the control) were tested during a full-scale onsite evaluation at a store fixture manufacturing facility. Adhesive performance was subjectively evaluated for each waterborne adhesive and compared to the performance of the currently used control adhesive. The quantity of adhesive used during applications were measured, and each adhesive is analyzed for VOC content. VOC emissions and costs were estimated from preliminary information. In addition, temperature-exposure is tested and peel strength is evaluated to predict the performance and longevity of the waterborne adhesive compared with the control solvent-borne adhesive. Preliminary results show that selected waterborne contact adhesives evaluated performed as well as the control.
