Abstract The lumber and plywood manufacturing process generate large quantities of wood residue and waste material, much of which is incinerated in conical or 'wigwam' burners. This report provides technical information on air pollution control techniques and alternatives for conical burners. Background information is given regarding the design, operation and combustion activities, including fuel composition. Air pollution emissions, both gaseous and particulate, are calculated and current regulations are reviewed. Modifications to existing burners are suggested as well as alternative methods of residue disposal. Capital and operating costs and approximate time schedules are given for both modifications and alternatives to wigwam burners.
