Abstract |
The mid-Atlantic region, home to vital natural resources such as the Chesapeake Bay, is highly susceptible to the potential impacts of climate change. Im concerned because the mid-Atlantic region contains sensitive ecosystems that could be devastated by the effects of global warming, said W. Michael McCabe, regional administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agencys Region 3. McCabe kicked off a public conference on climate change convened by EPA in Philadelphia on February 26, 1998. The conference emphasized solutions. For example, the 491 companies that have joined the voluntary Green Lights program in the mid-Atlantic region are saving 512 million kilowatt-hours per year through efficient lighting and are reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 818 million pounds of carbon dioxide. |
