| Abstract |
The Havertown PCP site is in Havertown, Delaware County, Pennsylvania, approximately 10 miles west of Philadelphia. This 12- to 15-acre site consists of a wood treatment facility, an adjacent manufacturing facility, and Naylors Run Creek which drains the area. Contamination at the site is due to improper disposal of wastes generated from wood preserving operations. From 1947 to 1963 PCP-contaminated oil was dumped into a well. In 1972 the State identified contaminated ground water discharging from a storm sewer into Naylors Run. In 1988 EPA installed a catch basin in Naylors Run to trap discharge from the storm sewer pipe. This Record of Decision (ROD), will address the remediation of surface water and the disposal of drummed and tanked wastes. A subsequent ROD will address the impact of contaminated soil on ground water contamination at the site. The primary contaminants of concern affecting the surface water are VOCs including benzene, toluene and TCE; other organics including phenols, dioxins, PCP, and PAHs; metals including arsenic and chromium; and oils. |
