Abstract This report summarizes the first two years of research designed to demonstrate applications of computer graphics to environmental analyses associated with the evaluation of impacts from development of conventional energy systems. The work emphasizes the use of storage-tube computer graphics technology as a means for improving the interaction between the engineer-scientist and the power of the computer. Computer graphics is also shown to be an effective medium for summarizing and communicating information about the environment and pollution control alternatives to technical specialists, managers, and the public. Also, many techniques of analysis previously considered impractical can now be conducted on a routine basis. Applications to several fields of analysis are described in detail, including air quality, water quality, radiological hygiene, industrial hygiene, socioeconomics, and data facilities siting with the use of geographically referenced data.
