Abstract This decision document presents the selected remedial action for the soil within the northern industrial area of Milan Army Ammunition Plant, Milan, Tennessee. The goal of the cleanup activities at the northern industrial areas of MAAP is to remove the soil contaminated with explosives compounds above risk-based levels. The excavated soil will be treated using a bioremediation process to reduce the concentrations of explosives compounds, the toxicity of the leachate, and the mobility of the remaining organic compounds. The treated soil will then be placed in an on-site solid waste landfill in compliance with State of Tennessee regulations. Additionally, in areas where excavation of the explosives-contaminated soil is infeasible, the soil will be covered with an engineered cap to prevent worker exposure to the explosives compounds and prevent leaching of these compounds to groundwater.
