Abstract |
The Nonmethane Organic Compound (NMOC)/Speciated Nonmethane Organic Compound (SNMOC) monitoring program is designed to characterize the magnitude and composition of air pollution in areas that are not in attainment with the National Ambient Air Quality Standard (NAAQS) for ozone. In particular, the program measures concentrations of four different categories of air pollutants that contribute to a series of photochemical reactions known to form ozone. the 1996 monitoring program collected ambient air samples at 15 locations across the country. Samples were collected from 6:00 to 9:00 AM, because some regional air quality models require concentrations over this time frame as a critical input. The data indicate the following general trends and patterns in ambient air quality: total nonmethane organic compounds (NMOC); speciated nonmethane organic compounds (SNMOC); volatile organic compounds (VOC); carbonyl compounds. |
