Abstract |
Lake Apopka is a 12,500 lectare (31,000 acre) lake located in central Florida, approximately 25 km (15 mi) northwest of Orlando. Throughout the first half of this century Lake Apopka contained clear water and luxuriant vegetation and was noted for its excellent bass fishing. Today it is a highly eutrophic lake and experiences continual algal blooms. Rough fish are now the dominant species in the lake. The purpose of the EIS is to meet the objectives of NEPA. The overall goal of the project is to stop the continuing degradation of the lake's waters and to restore Lake Apopka as a quality natural resource. The Final EIS summarizes the Draft EIS and addresses comments received by interested governmental agencies, environmental groups and concerned citizens. |
