Abstract The United States Environment Protection Agency (EPA) is investigating the coke making industry to characterize hazardous air pollutants (HAPs) emitted from coke pushing operations and combustion (underfire) stacks. This test report addresses pushing emissions from a coke oven, and emissions from the combustion (underfire) stack that serves Coke Battery No. 5/6 at ABC Coke in Birmingham, Alabama. The purpose of this test program was to quantify emissions from the inlet and outlet of the baghouse controlling emissions from the coke pushing operation and to quantify emissions from the combustion outlet stack. The data may be used by the EPA in the future to support a residual risk assessment for coke oven facilities. The testing was performed to quantify uncontrolled and controlled air emissions of filterable particulate matter (PM), methylene chloride extractable matter (MCEM) and 19 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) including acenaphthene, acenaphthylene, anthracene, benzo(a)anthracene, benzo(a)pyrene, benzo(b)fluoranthene, benzo(e)pyrene, benzo(k)fluoranthene, benzo(ghi)perylene, chrysene, dibenz(a,h)anthracene, fluoranthene, fluorene, indeno(1,2,3,-cd)pyrene, 2-methynaphthalene, napthalene, perylee, phenanthrene, and pyrene. In addition, following the PM and MCEM analyses, the samples were analyzed to screen for the presence of 17 trace metals. Baghouse dust samples were also collected and analyzed for 16 trace metals. Simultaneous testing was performed at the inlet and outlet of the baghouse controlling emissions from the coke pushing operation. Sampling was also performed on the combustion outlet stack. In addition to pollution testing, oxygen (O2) and carbon dioxide (CO2) were measured at each location. During the sampling program, Research Triangle Institute (RTI), another EPA contractor, monitored and recorded process and emission control system operating parameters. This volume (Volume III) is comprised of 379 pages and consists of Appendices: E (Calculations), F (QA/QC Data), G (Participants), and H (Sampling and Analytical Procedures).
