Abstract The report describes a U.S./USSR cooperative test program to quantify and characterize particulate emissions from a U.S. coal-burning power plant boiler, equipped with a hot-side electrostatic precipitator, at Duke Power Co.'s Allen Steam Station in March 1976. U.S. and Soviet equipment and procedures were used to determine flue gas composition and velocity, total particulate mass concentration of the gas stream, particle size distribution, electrical resistivity of the particulate entering the precipitator, evidence of back corona in the precipitator, SO2 and SO3 concentrations in the flue gas, and chemical composition of the fuel and fly ash. The test site and test procedures are described. Results of the comparative tests are presented and discussed. In 1972, the U.S. and the USSR signed a bilateral agreement pledging cooperation on environmental protection. This is one of the cooperative programs resulting from the agreement.
