| Abstract |
The report gives results of a demonstration of the catalytic abatement of low concentration hydrocarbon vapors on both a pilot- and full-scale system. The tests were conducted on industrial exhausts containing CO and volatile hydrocarbons. An economic comparison was made between thermal and catalytic abatement systems, utilizing this data. The pilot-scale data was obtained over a 5-month period from a plastic printing plant where the major solvents were ethanol, n-propyl acetate, and heptane. The full-scale data was obtained over a 9-month period from a Formox (Reichold Chemical Co.) formaldehyde plant exhaust containing CO, dimethyl ether, methanol, and formaldehyde. The pilot- and full-scale units were able to convert 97-99% of the pollutants to CO2 and water. |
