| Abstract |
Biological degradation of wastes was obtained in a pilot treatment plant using long residence times with continuous aeration in a combination trickling filter and activated sludge digestion unit. Pyridine was found to be extensively biodegradable (up to 100%) and was also found to exert a significant proportion of its theoretical biological oxygen demand (BOD) value when added to the treatment system. Beta-picoline was also found to be substantially degraded (up to 92%) and while exerting an effect on its theoretical BOD, it was not found to be as substantial as pyridine's influence. |
